The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a massive popularization of teleworking, creating new trends in employment. The number of professionals who opt to work in changing locations while traveling across different countries is steadily increasing.

The advances in technology have opened up a world of possibilities, allowing people to develop professionally anywhere with just a computer and an internet connection. As a result, new types of employment have emerged.

And this is also how digital nomads have appeared. Who are they, and what should they pay attention to?

Workers or tourists?

Digital nomads are people who use the internet to perform their jobs or sell their expertise, activities that can be done remotely. The resulting income is used to go from place to place, constantly traveling and leading a nomadic lifestyle.

This type of work allows you to combine both concepts. Digital nomads can relocate their workplace while doing some tourism, learning about other cultures and cities, and still fulfilling their work obligations.

Although anyone depending on their laptop and an internet connection can benefit from this methodology, some professions have an advantage: freelancers, entrepreneurs, bloggers, influencers, designers, programmers, translators, photographers, journalists, to name a few.

I want to be a digital nomad! What should I consider?

A job that can be done remotely is a great starting point, but it is not enough. An adventure of this nature must be carefully analyzed in order to be successful. Most people look for countries with flexible rules and that comply with some essential items:

1. Affordable living costs, with good value for money.

2. Flexible, suitable spaces, high-speed internet, and attractive spots to enjoy a day off or a moment of leisure.

3. Having the possibility to interact with others who share a similar lifestyle can be enticing. Coworking spaces, coffee shops, and libraries are great places to meet people.

4. Easily obtainable visa for long-term legal residence.

5. Access to the health system and transportation network for practical mobility.

Point 4 is particularly important since the usual settlement period varies between a month and a year, yet visas in many countries do not cover such periods. Places like Croatia, Germany, Portugal, Barbados, Estonia, or Georgia issue permits that last up to twelve months.

Health coverage for unforeseen events

Counting on insurance that fits the life that you will lead has never been more crucial. Living abroad might lead to some unpleasant experiences, and prevention is always the best solution. What should one do in this situation? Follow a daily routine, maintain your habits, and remember that accidents, thefts, and losses can occur to anyone.

It is advisable to get health insurance that covers more than just the basics, including emergencies, domestic accidents, and, above all, COVID-19 related conditions. Depending on the trip and how long it will last Insurance can be purchased for six or twelve-months periods.

Much remains to be discovered about teleworking and these types of jobs. Nevertheless, they have already set a trend in both the employment and tourism sectors. Giving the current circumstances, keeping the listed items in mind will be of great help to make it happen.
